Highway Safety Programs Will Continue During Government Shutdown

Despite the shutdown of most federal government functions effective October 1, highway construction and safety programs will remain operational.
The shutdown comes after legislators failed to agree on a measure to fund the governement. The Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the Federal Highway Administration are unaffected because they are funded by the Highway Trust Fund.
